Mary Virginia Swanson will be speaking at public events and consulting sessions with photographers in the following locations during the Summer of 2010: Tucson, New York City, Santa Fe and Minneapolis.

Publish Your Photography Book

These lectures and workshops will be designed for photographers interested in understanding the ins and outs of publishing a book of their work.  Topics include an overview of the publishing industry, issues of design and typography, planning for production, and the marketing of your finished title. Print-on-demand and self-published books are discussed, with many examples shown throughout the week. Depending on the location and duration of the event, the schedule may include demonstrations, guest speakers, and field trips to local publishers, photographers, and booksellers. 

This series begins with a two-hour lecture at PhotoPlus Expo on Thursday, October 28th (1:15 - 3:15, lecture #TB7).

SEPTEMBER 2010

BOSTON AREA, MASSACHUSETTS :
September 19 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of in-person or telephone consultations from Boston on the morning of September 19th.



PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE :
September 20-27 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of in-person and telephone consultations the week of the 20th from Portsmouth.



PORTSMOUTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE :
September 26 :

MVS will be giving a lecture in Portsmouth, New Hampshire sponsored by the NHSPA at 2:00 p.m. Details to be announced soon!



AUSTIN, TEXAS :
September 29-30 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of consultations in Austin prior to participating in the ninth annual biennial Fleur Cowles Flair Symposium: "SHAPING THE HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY" to be held at the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas, Austin. 



AUSTIN, TEXAS :
September 30-October 2 :

MVS will participate as a Presenter at the symposium "Shaping the History of Photography" September 30 - October 2 at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas, Austin.  Registration is open now.  This symposium springs from the exhibition "Discovering the Language of Photography: The Gernsheim Collection" which runs from September 7, 2010 - January 2, 2011.




OCTOBER 2010

TORONTO, CANADA, :
October 6 :

MVS will present a workshop: "Presenting Your Work to the Fine Art Community" on Wednesday, October 6th from 12-4 pm.  This is the first day of the "Flash Forward Festival" in Toronto.



TORONTO, CANADA, :
October 7-10 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of in-person consultations after presenting and while attending the "FLASH FORWARD FESTIVAL."



TUCSON, ARIZONA :
October 11-21 : MVS will accept a limited number of in-person and telephone consultations from Tucson (PST).

PRESCOTT, ARIZONA :
October 21-24 :

MVS will accept a limited number of in-person consultations while attending the SPE SW Regional Conference hosted by Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona.  



NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK :
October 27-November 6 :

MVS will accept a limited number of in-person consultations in New York City before and after presenting at the PhotoPlus Expo conference.




NOVEMBER 2010

WASHINGTON, DC :
November 7 :

MVS will participate as a Portfolio Reviewer at FotoWeek DC.



WASHINGTON, DC :
November 8 :

MVS and co-author Darius Himes will give a lecture entitled 'To Be Published or Self-Publish' at the Corcoran College of Art + Design  in Washington, DC (12:00 noon) in conjunction with FotoWeek DC.



WASHINGTON, DC :
November 9-10 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of in-person consultations following her participation as a Portfolio Reviewer and Speaker at FotoWeek DC.



PARIS, FRANCE, :
November 15-17 :

MVS will be participating as a Portfolio Reviewer at the inaugural Lens Culture FotoFest Paris 2010, which is being coordinated with LensCulture and hosted by Speos Paris Photographic Institute.  This event will be held just prior to Paris Photo. Registration is open NOW.



PARIS, FRANCE, :
November 18-22 :

MVS will accept a limited number of in-person consultations in Paris after Lensculture Fotofest Paris.



TUCSON, ARIZONA :
November 26-December 1 :

MVS will be available for a limited number of in-person and telephone consultations from Tucson.




DECEMBER 2010

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA :
December 3-5 :

MVS will be participating as a Presenter, and as Moderator on the publishing panel during the education day prior to the start of PhotoNola,  and serving as a Reviewer at the Portfolio Review weekend of PhotoNOLA in New Orleans.
